In June, I was contacted by Domestika, a learning platform for creative, to do a class on Retro American Lettering. I was really happy to to it. First, because I was already a customer of their platform and I loved their courses, but also because it was a great opportunity for me to share my love for retro lettering, from the 60/70s.
For my course, which is now available here, I decided to create a “final project” around Jazz. I am a big fan of design around Jazz, especially in albums covers. Since I discovered the work of Jim Flora few years ago, I can’t stop playing with decomplexed letters 😉
So for that artwork, I did invent a jazz festival in Brooklyn, USA, chose 4 really good jazz pianists and tried to give a kind of Saul Bass feel to their names on a piano. I chose a color palette and did create this.
If you want to know more about my process on that piece, don’t hesitate to take my course on Domestika.
